Accademia Carrara

The Accademia Carrara is one of the most prestigious art galleries in Italy.

Its cultural patrimony is immense: the gallery houses almost two thousand paintings ranging from the 14th to the 19th century and belonging to the major Italian schools as well as the Flemish, French, German and Spanish schools.

The Accademia Carrara is a unique example of civic awareness, founded by the prodigious art collector, Count Giacomo Carrara. The collection has been enriched and expanded over the course of the last two centuries, thanks to generous donations from other art collectors.

The gallery represents a beautiful love affair with culture and art, coupled with a desire to give everyone the possibility to admire these splendid masterpieces.

The lack of religious altarpieces bears witness to the fact that the majority of the Accademia Carrara’s artwork is the extraordinary result of private donations from wealthy private collectors who favour smaller pieces that characterise the ongoing quest for beauty and grace.

Among others, you will have the chance to admire masterpieces by Mantegna, Bellini. Botticelli, Raphael, Perugino, Lotto, Moroni, Palma Vecchio, Baschenis, Canaletto, Titian.
